Meltzer, on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 for special reception and presentation on "Lessons Learned from the Financial Crisis" at the Edison Electric Institute at 701 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, in Washington, DC.
The event is organized by the Tepper School Washington DC Alumni Chapter and is open to all Carnegie Mellon alumni and their guests. Alumni are asked to register online at: www.tepper.cmu.edu/alumni/dc. Our space is limited so please register as early as possible. Business casual attire. The registration charge is $20.00 for those who register in advance online and $30.00 at the door (if space allows). This will go towards covering part of the cost of refreshments.
Dr. Allan H. Meltzer is The Allan H. Meltzer University Professor of Political Economy at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He has achieved international recognition as a distinguished professor, researcher, and thought leader in the areas of macroeconomics, monetary policy and international financial reform. Joining the faculty of Carnegie Mellon in 1957, he continues to instruct classes in Capitalism for graduate students at the Tepper School of Business. Professor Meltzer has served as a counselor on economic policy for the U.S. Congress, U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve, the World Bank and the U.S. and foreign governments. He is a co-founder and former co-chair of the Shadow Open Market Committee, served as the chairman of the International Financial Institution Advisory Commission (also known as the Meltzer Commission) for the U.S. Congress, and was appointed as an honorary adviser to the Bank of Japan from 1986 to 2002. A highly-valued expert on economic affairs, Professor Meltzer is a frequent contributor to national and international news stories and is often referenced by leading news agencies including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, National Public Radio, and several major TV networks. He has authored more than 300 academic studies and his most recent book “A History of the Federal Reserve, Volume 1” has been applauded as the definitive record of the Agency’s chronology. (Volume 2 is slated for public release in Fall 2009.) Professor Meltzer has been a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute since 1989, was elected as a distinguished fellow to the American Economic Association in 2002 and is a fellow of the National Association of Business Economics. He has won many awards including the first-ever Irving Kristol Award (2003) from the American Enterprise Institute, Western Pennsylvania History Maker (2003), Pittsburgh’s Man of the Year in Finance, and the Money Marketeer’s Distinguished Achievement Award (1997). | | Directions: EEI is located at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., in Washington, D.C. Conveniently located at the corner of 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, the Institute is in the heart of downtown D.C., only five blocks from the Capitol. The Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter stop on the Yellow and Green Lines is located directly in front of EEI. Visitors coming from northern D.C. or Maryland may elect to use the Red Line, exiting at the Gallery Pl-Chinatown stop and walking south for three blocks on 7th Street. Alternatively, visitors can transfer to the Yellow and Green Lines at Gallery Pl-Chinatown and then exit at the Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter stop. |
